Polestar has confirmed its new Formula 2030 concept car, providing an early look at the design direction that will shape the Swedish electric performance brand’s next generation of models.
The concept forms part of Polestar’s wider strategy towards 2030 and has been created to showcase how the brand intends to develop its distinctive Scandinavian design language while strengthening its focus on performance, technology and sustainability.
Importantly, Formula 2030 is more than a standalone design exercise. Polestar says elements of the concept will appear on the next-generation Polestar 2, currently planned for launch in 2027, as well as the forthcoming Polestar 7.
Evolution rather than revolution
Led by Polestar Head of Design Philipp Römers, the Formula 2030 project represents what the company describes as a bold evolution of its existing design philosophy rather than a dramatic change of direction.
Both exterior and interior design will move forward, while new materials and a greater emphasis on sustainability are also expected to play an important role in future production models.
Formula 2030 will retain recognisable Polestar design signatures, including the Dual Blade headlight treatment, while introducing a stronger and more characterful identity for the next generation of cars.
Römers said Polestar already has a strong and recognisable design language, making evolution the natural approach.
“Formula 2030 delivers this, showcasing our future while respecting brand-defining elements like the familiar Dual Blade headlights,” he said, adding that the concept remains “recognisably a Polestar with a strong, characterful identity.”
First look at the next Polestar 2
The significance of Formula 2030 is heightened by its connection with the replacement for the Polestar 2.
Scheduled to arrive in 2027, the new model will adopt design attributes previewed by the concept and will represent the next chapter for one of Polestar’s most important cars.
The forthcoming Polestar 7 will also draw inspiration from Formula 2030, suggesting the concept will establish a broader family identity across future models rather than simply previewing one production car.
Alongside styling, Polestar says the concept will reinforce the performance credentials that have been central to the brand while exploring further developments in technology, materials and sustainability.
Global debut later this year
Formula 2030 will initially be presented behind closed doors at Polestar’s headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Investors, retailers and a select group of VIP customers will be given an exclusive preview of the concept at The Cube as part of a wider presentation outlining Polestar’s strategy towards 2030.
The show car will then make its public global debut later in 2026, coinciding with the international media drive programme for the Polestar 4 SUV.
For Polestar, Formula 2030 provides the clearest indication yet of how its cars will evolve over the coming years. Rather than abandoning the minimalist Scandinavian identity established by its current range, the company intends to develop it – with greater emphasis on character, performance and sustainable materials as its next generation of electric cars arrives.
