Britain’s automotive aftermarket industry is showcasing its products, technology and engineering expertise to an international audience this week as Automechanika Frankfurt 2026 gets underway.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) is hosting a dedicated UK Pavilion at the event, bringing together British companies looking to connect with overseas buyers, establish new partnerships and expand their presence in international markets.
Running from 8–12 September, Automechanika Frankfurt is Europe’s largest automotive aftermarket exhibition and provides UK suppliers with an opportunity to demonstrate capabilities spanning replacement components, braking systems and diagnostics through to electrification, emerging vehicle technologies and specialist engineering services.
UK Pavilion targets international growth
Located in Hall 5.1, Block D80, Stand E77, the UK Pavilion provides a central meeting point for international buyers and British automotive businesses.
Its previous appearance at Automechanika Frankfurt in 2024 generated almost 1,000 international business connections, with partnerships estimated to be worth £3.9 million.
The figures highlight the importance of overseas markets to the UK automotive supply chain. Around £7 billion worth of UK-built automotive components are exported each year, with British suppliers serving vehicle manufacturers, distributors, repair networks and specialist automotive markets around the world.
Changing vehicles reshape the aftermarket
The transition towards increasingly connected, electrified and software-defined vehicles is also changing the demands placed on the automotive aftermarket.
Maintaining and repairing the latest generation of vehicles requires increasingly specialised diagnostic equipment, technical knowledge, manufacturing and repair skills, together with expertise in areas such as high-voltage electrical systems and battery technology.
Britain’s diverse vehicle parc presents the domestic aftermarket with many of these challenges already. More than 80 vehicle brands and over 450 models are currently available across the UK market.
Zero-emission vehicles are also becoming an increasingly significant part of the vehicles operating on British roads. According to the SMMT, one in 22 vehicles currently in use is now zero emission, representing more than 1.79 million cars and over 120,000 vans, trucks and buses.
That growing technical diversity is increasing demand for specialist components, tools, diagnostics, training and technical services – areas where UK companies are looking to build both domestic and international business.
SMMT highlights UK expertise
Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive, said: “The UK aftermarket is built on quality, reliability and innovation, with a deep and diverse supplier base delivering cutting-edge solutions around the world to keep vehicles safe, efficient and roadworthy.
“Automechanika Frankfurt provides an unrivalled opportunity for international buyers and partners to discover that capability, meeting trusted British businesses and building new partnerships that support safer, cleaner and increasingly advanced mobility around the world.”
Major international aftermarket showcase
Automechanika Frankfurt remains one of the automotive industry’s largest international trade events. The previous show in 2024 attracted more than 107,000 visitors and 4,100 exhibitors representing 76 countries.
With vehicle technology continuing to develop rapidly, the 2026 event provides Britain’s aftermarket businesses with a significant opportunity to demonstrate how UK engineering, technical services and component expertise are adapting to the next generation of vehicles.
