Broad Arrow Auctions recorded $97.4 million (£72.7m) in sales at its inaugural Quail Auction as the official auction partner of The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, with a rare Ferrari Enzo topping a two-day sale dominated by modern collectible supercars.

Held on 13-14 August at The Quail Golf Club in Carmel, California, during Monterey Car Week, the auction saw 159 of 186 lots sold – an 85% sell-through rate – and attracted more than 1,400 registered bidders.

The headline result came from a 2003 Ferrari Enzo, which sold for $10.675 million (£8.0m) and underscored the growing demand for modern-era Ferraris among a new generation of collectors.

Rare Ferrari Enzo takes top honours

One of only three Enzos finished in Nero D.S. over Rosso leather, the 2003 example was offered without reserve and generated intense competition in the auction room.

After sustained bidding, the car eventually sold for $10.675 million to Jesús Ortíz Paz, frontman of American-Mexican music group Fuerza Régida.

The result made the Enzo comfortably the highest-value car of Broad Arrow’s Quail sale.

Barney Ruprecht, Vice President of Auctions for Broad Arrow, said the result reflected a wider shift taking place within the collector-car market.

“The Ferrari Enzo epitomises today’s market better than any other car.”

Ruprecht pointed to the Enzo being purchased by a millennial-aged collector as evidence of a generational change in collecting, with modern performance cars becoming increasingly important at the top end of the market.

Ferrari dominates collector demand

The Enzo was far from the only Ferrari to attract serious attention.

A succession of modern Maranello’s models achieved exceptional prices, with Broad Arrow reporting several auction records during the two-day event.

A 2019 Ferrari 812 Superfast, offered from the Casa Bella Macchina Collection, sold for $747,500, almost twice its $400,000 pre-sale high estimate and setting what Broad Arrow says is a new world auction record for the model.

A Classiche-certified 1998 Ferrari 550 Maranello’s, showing just 527 miles, reached $648,500, while a 2001 Ferrari 550 Barchetta Pininfarina in Nero D.S. over Cuoio leather achieved $1.6275 million, comfortably exceeding its $1.4 million upper estimate.

Another record came from a single-owner 2020 Ferrari 488 Pista Spider, which sold for $1.545 million.

Further significant Ferrari results included a 2017 F12tdf at $3.635 million and a 2015 458 Speciale A at $2.425 million.

Bugatti Mistral reaches $8.8 million

Ferrari may have dominated the headlines, but some of the strongest results came from other modern hypercars.

One of just 99 examples of the 2025 Bugatti W16 Mistral, finished in Matt Argent and Black Carbon with a Beluga Black and Tangerine interior, sold for $8.805 million (£6.6m).

Broad Arrow says the result represents a new auction record for the model.

A 2011 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport, finished in white over Saddle Brown Nappa leather, followed at $3.305 million, setting another claimed model auction record.

American hypercar manufacturer Hennessey was also represented among the biggest sales. A rare 2023 Hennessey Venom F5 Revolution Coupe achieved $2.8375 million, which Broad Arrow says is the highest auction price yet recorded for a Hennessey.

A 2023 Venom F5 Roadster also reached $2.425 million.

Porsche 959 sets another record

Demand extended into Porsche’s modern collector market.

A Graphite Metallic 1988 Porsche 959 Komfort sold for $2.865 million, setting what Broad Arrow describes as a world auction record for an unmodified 959 Komfort.

A 1990 Porsche 911 reimagined by Singer, the Classic Turbo Services ‘Aurum Verde Commission’, achieved $1.6 million.

Elsewhere, an extensively optioned Paint-to-Sample Violet Blue Metallic 1996 Porsche 911 Turbo exceeded its high estimate to sell for $500,000, while a single-owner 1998 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S reached $263,200.

Lamborghini Miura passes $4 million

Traditional post-war collector cars remained firmly in demand despite the strength of newer supercars.

An extensively restored 1968 Lamborghini Miura P400 S, finished in period-correct Azzurro Mexico Metallizzato, became the third-highest sale of the auction at $4.075 million (£3.0m).

The Miura was joined by a 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster, one of just 15 examples originally finished in Sonderlackierung Light Green Metallic.

Restored and featuring a contrasting green leather interior, the Mercedes sold for $2.04 million, beating its $1.5 million to $1.8 million estimate.

New chapter for Broad Arrow at The Quail

The 2026 sale marked Broad Arrow’s first Monterey Car Week auction as the official auction partner of The Quail.

Kenneth Ahn, President of Broad Arrow and Hagerty Marketplace, described the event as the company’s highest-grossing Monterey Car Week sale to date, highlighting both the new auction presentation and the strength of the cars consigned.

James Overbaugh, Managing Director of The Quail, described the inaugural partnership as a “resounding success”, confirming expectations that the relationship will continue in future years.

Motoring Echo Verdict

Broad Arrow’s $97.4 million Quail Auction provides another indication of how the upper reaches of the collector-car market are evolving.

Established classics such as the Lamborghini Miura and Mercedes-Benz 300 SL remain hugely desirable, but the extraordinary prices achieved by the Ferrari Enzo, Bugatti W16 Mistral, Ferrari F12tdf and Porsche 959 demonstrate the increasing influence of comparatively modern machinery.

The $10.675 million Enzo is particularly significant. Combined with record results across several other modern Ferraris, it suggests that cars once regarded simply as contemporary supercars are rapidly becoming some of the defining collector vehicles of their generation.
