Premium British EV charging specialist Andersen has expanded its retail reach through a new partnership with John Lewis & Partners, bringing its design-led home charging range to one of the UK’s best-known retailers.

The agreement sees Andersen’s A2, A3 and recently launched Quartz home chargers offered through a dedicated Andersen brand store on the John Lewis website, giving electric car owners another route to purchasing a charger designed to complement rather than compromise the appearance of their home.

Manufactured in the UK, Andersen chargers have made their name by combining EV charging technology with a distinctly more architectural approach to design. Customers can choose from a selection of colours and finishes, including premium wood options such as Cotswold Oak and Sorong Teak Accoya Wood.

For John Lewis customers, the partnership brings a carefully selected core range of these finishes together with Andersen’s installation and customer support services.

Charging without the industrial look

Home chargers have traditionally been functional pieces of equipment, but Andersen has built its proposition around making the wallbox part of the exterior design of the property.

The A2 and A3 feature a hidden tethered Type 2 charging cable, keeping the cable concealed when it is not being used. The newer Andersen Quartz broadens the choice further with tethered and socketed versions available.

Customers can also select 7kW or 22kW charging, although the suitability of the more powerful 22kW installation will depend on the property’s electrical supply.

All three models are backed by Andersen’s seven-year warranty.

David Martell, Chief Executive of Andersen, said the two British businesses share similar priorities around quality and customer service.

“John Lewis & Partners is a trusted, quality retailer focused on customer service, sharing key principles that Andersen holds in the highest regard,” he said.

“As a fellow British company, manufacturing in the UK, we are delighted to be offering our range of products and premium service through this new and exciting partnership.”

Installation included in the experience

The John Lewis partnership goes beyond simply putting Andersen chargers on another retail website.

Customers buying through the retailer will receive Andersen’s usual installation service, carried out by the company’s own team of engineers.

Its Concierge Service is also included at no additional charge, providing support through installation and charger set-up as well as helping customers select an appropriate EV electricity tariff.

That could prove an important part of the package as home charging increasingly becomes about more than simply plugging a car into the wall. Matching charging schedules with off-peak electricity tariffs can significantly influence the running-cost advantages of an EV.

Motoring Echo Top Tips

Check your electrical supply: A 22kW charger requires a suitable three-phase electrical supply, which is not standard in most UK homes.

Think about cable management: A hidden tethered cable can make everyday charging more convenient while keeping driveways and exterior walls tidier.

Compare EV tariffs: Cheap overnight electricity can make a substantial difference to the cost of running an electric car, so consider the complete charging package rather than the wallbox alone.

Look beyond the purchase price: Installation, warranty length and after-sales support should all form part of the comparison when choosing a home charger.

The Andersen range is now available through John Lewis & Partners, with prices starting from £1,130 for an Andersen Quartz including installation.

Motoring Echo Verdict

The arrival of Andersen at John Lewis reflects how quickly home EV charging is moving beyond specialist equipment and into the mainstream home-improvement market.

Andersen occupies an interesting position at the premium end of that market. Its chargers aren’t simply designed to provide electricity to an EV; considerable attention has been paid to how they look when attached to someone’s home.

That approach inevitably comes at a price, but the combination of British manufacture, extensive customisation, professional installation, a seven-year warranty and concierge support gives the package a stronger proposition than the charger specification alone might suggest.

For EV owners who regard the appearance of their driveway as being almost as important as the car parked on it, Andersen’s arrival at John Lewis makes premium home charging considerably easier to find.
