Petter Solberg’s former Subaru Impreza WRC, a Tommi Mäkinen-driven Mitsubishi Lancer and a collection of Porsche, Ferrari and BMW icons are heading to auction as part of Car & Classic’s latest Collector’s Edition sale.
Called ‘Poster Cars’, the online auction brings together competition cars, supercars and design classics that became automotive heroes through motorsport, magazines, television, film and, inevitably, bedroom walls.

Among the headline lots is a 2003 Subaru Impreza S9 WRC, chassis 15, previously driven by World Rally Champion Petter Solberg. It will be joined by a 2001 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI WRC, chassis 4, campaigned by four-time WRC champion Tommi Mäkinen.
Adding more competition pedigree is a 1983 Ford C100, representing Ford’s Group C endurance racing programme, while a 2007 RUF RT600 brings some rather more specialised German performance to the collection.
From Delahaye elegance to Ferrari poster cars
At the other end of the spectrum is a 1946 Delahaye 135 M Three-Position Cabriolet, the earliest car in the auction and the first Delahaye to feature in a Car & Classic Collector’s Edition.

The coachbuilt French grand tourer has undergone extensive mechanical restoration, competed in rallies across France and previously collected concours and exhibition honours.
Ferrari is represented by three instantly recognisable road cars: the 308 GTB, 348 TS and 550 Maranello.
BMW enthusiasts have an equally varied selection, including a 3.0 CSL, a Z8, Z3 M Coupé and an E30 M3 previously owned by Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay.
Elsewhere, the collection includes a 1961 Abarth 1000, Ford Escort Mexico, Lynx XKSS and the mid-engined Renault Clio V6.
British and European classics join the collection
Britain’s grand touring heritage is represented by an Aston Martin DB2 Drophead Coupé and DB6, along with an AC Ace Bristol – the Bristol-engined roadster whose basic form would help inspire the AC Cobra.
They are joined by a Mercedes-Benz ‘Pagoda’, known for the distinctive concave profile of its hardtop, and a Chevrolet Corvette C1, the original generation of America’s long-running sports car.

Porsche RS models lead Stuttgart contingent
Following Car & Classic’s previous ‘For the Love of Porsche’ auction, the Poster Cars sale includes another substantial selection of machinery from Stuttgart.
Three cars wearing Porsche’s celebrated RS badge lead the group.
A 1992 Porsche 911 Carrera RS (964) represents the lightweight homologation model developed from the Carrera Cup programme, while a rare 1993 Porsche 911 RS America (964) provides a US-market interpretation of the formula.
Moving into the modern era is a 2009 Porsche 911 GT3 RS (997), combining naturally aspirated performance with the motorsport-derived engineering that has helped establish the GT3 RS name.
Other Porsche lots include a 1993 911 Turbo 3.6 (964) with fewer than 16,000 miles, a 1997 911 Carrera 2S (993) showing 8,900 miles and a claimed one-of-one 1997 911 Targa (993).
A 1990 911 Carrera 4 Targa (964) and a backdated 1990 911 (964) complete the Porsche selection.
‘A poster car is never just a car’
Tom Wood, CEO of Car & Classic, said the collection was designed around cars capable of creating a lasting connection with enthusiasts.
“A poster car is never just a car. It is the machine you first saw flying through a forest stage, filling a television screen or pinned above your bed,” he said.
“For one person that might be a Ferrari 308; for another, an E30 M3 or Petter Solberg’s blue-and-gold Subaru. What unites this collection is the power each car still has to stop people in their tracks.”
Wood added that the fourth Collector’s Edition celebrates cars that have shaped enthusiasm through “motorsport, magazines, film or the poster on our bedroom walls”.
Chris Harris explores the cars
Ahead of bidding, motoring journalist and broadcaster Chris Harris will present a new series of films exploring selected cars from the collection.
The series will begin with the Subaru and Mitsubishi WRC machines before examining the history, engineering and cultural significance of other highlights from the auction.
Poster Cars is the fourth sale in Car & Classic’s Collector’s Edition series. The previous instalment, ‘For the Love of Porsche’, concluded in August with more than £1.7 million in winning bids, including five six-figure results.
Bidding for Collector’s Edition 4: ‘Poster Cars’ opens on Friday 25 September and closes during the evening of Saturday 3 October 2026.
