MG has chosen the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed to unveil two striking new concept cars, providing the clearest indication yet of where one of Britain’s most recognisable automotive brands is heading in the electric era.

The world premieres of the MG GO! and MG Cyber Concept celebrate more than a century of British motoring heritage while demonstrating how the marque intends to blend its sporting DNA with advanced electric vehicle technology, intelligent connectivity and cutting-edge AI.

The two concepts represent very different interpretations of the future, yet together underline MG’s ambition to make advanced electric mobility both exciting and accessible.

MG GO! Previews Emotional Electric Hatchback for 2027

The MG GO! offers an early preview of a compact B-segment electric hatchback scheduled for launch in 2027.

Rather than simply revisiting the past, MG says the concept reinterprets the charm, elegance and personality of some of its most celebrated modelsโ€”including the legendary MGB GTโ€”for a new generation of EV buyers.

Designed entirely at the MG Design Centre London, the concept combines clean proportions with playful detailing to create a hatchback intended to stand apart in one of Europe’s most competitive vehicle segments.

MG says the design has also been influenced by sporting favourites including the MG Metro Turbo, MG ZR and the dramatic MG EX4 concept.

According to Design Director Carl Gotham, the goal was never to create a nostalgic showpiece, but instead deliver a modern electric car capable of forging an emotional connection with drivers.

“It is not about looking back for its own sake, but about capturing the clarity, charm and emotional appeal that have always made MG distinctive, while creating something with genuine charisma.”

Cyber Concept Reinvents the Performance SUV

If the GO! represents everyday electric mobility, the MG Cyber Concept explores the opposite end of the spectrum.

The large D-segment performance SUV has been conceived as a flagship model, drawing inspiration from the legendary MG EX181 land-speed record car while embracing the latest developments in electric performance.

Designed to combine practicality with genuine driver engagement, the Cyber Concept aims to prove that sporting character can successfully transition into the SUV market without sacrificing everyday usability.

Its dramatic proportions, sculpted bodywork and athletic stance are intended to communicate motion even when stationary, while the underlying philosophy centres on delivering performance without compromise.

Jozef Kabaลˆ, Vice President of Global Design, said:

“Great design begins with people, not products. Technology can be shared, but character cannot. Great design should spark curiosity, excitement and desire.”

Artificial Intelligence Takes Centre Stage

Beyond the concept cars, MG is using Goodwood to demonstrate its growing expertise in next-generation automotive technology.

The manufacturer’s Future Motion Show features advanced robotics alongside demonstrations of artificial intelligence, intelligent autonomous driving systems, LiDAR technology, sensors and enhanced vehicle connectivity.

The display highlights MG’s ambitions beyond vehicle design, showcasing how future models will increasingly integrate advanced software and autonomous capabilities.

Current Electrified Line-up Also Stars at Goodwood

Alongside the futuristic concepts, MG’s stand features six production electrified models demonstrating the breadth of its current line-up.

Among the highlights are:

  • MGS9 PHEV โ€“ MG’s first seven-seat plug-in hybrid SUV.
  • MG4 EV Urban โ€“ a new compact electric hatchback launched during 2026.
  • MG HS Plug-in Hybrid โ€“ recently recognised as one of the UK’s highest-rated plug-in hybrids.
  • MG IM5 โ€“ the brand’s premium technology flagship.
  • MG ZS Hybrid+ โ€“ combining SUV practicality with hybrid efficiency.
  • MG Cyberster โ€“ the all-electric roadster that continues MG’s sporting tradition.

The display reinforces MG’s rapid expansion across plug-in hybrid, hybrid and fully electric sectors, while demonstrating how the company intends to balance affordability with increasingly sophisticated technology.

Motoring Echo Verdict

MG’s Goodwood display is about considerably more than two striking concept cars.

The MG GO! suggests affordable electric hatchbacks do not need to sacrifice character, while the Cyber Concept demonstrates that performance remains firmly embedded within MG’s DNAโ€”even as the market shifts towards SUVs and electrification.

Combined with demonstrations of AI, autonomous driving technology and an expanding production range, the exhibition presents perhaps the strongest indication yet that MG intends to be a significant force in Europe’s next generation of electric mobility.
