Aston Martin has unveiled the Valhalla Spider, an open-cockpit version of its mid-engined plug-in hybrid supercar, combining 1,079PS with a top speed of 217mph — even with the roof removed.

Following the introduction of the Valhalla Coupe earlier this year, the Spider becomes Aston Martin’s first production mid-engined open-cockpit supercar and the fastest open-top model in the company’s history.

New Aston Martin Valhalla Spider hybrid supercar

Developed with input from Aston Martin Performance Technologies, which draws on expertise from the company’s Formula 1 operation, the Spider retains the Coupe’s advanced hybrid powertrain, carbon fibre construction and active aerodynamics.

Open-air driving without sacrificing performance

One of the Valhalla Spider’s most distinctive features is its removable roof system.

A black fabric roof is standard, allowing drivers to travel at speeds of up to 124mph with the roof fitted. An optional carbon fibre hardtop permits the car’s full electronically limited 217mph maximum speed, while the Spider can also achieve that speed with the roof completely removed.

A specially developed wind deflector helps direct airflow above the occupants while maintaining cooling air to the engine intake. The Spider’s distinctive roof-mounted snorkel has been raised by 35mm to accommodate the revised airflow requirements.

When not required, the wind deflector folds into three sections and fits within dedicated storage compartments.

Hybrid power with Formula 1 influence

The Spider uses the same powertrain as the Coupe, pairing an 828PS twin-turbocharged V8 with three electric motors contributing a further 251PS. Combined output is 1,079PS and 1,100Nm of torque.

Two electric motors drive the front wheels, providing electric torque vectoring to improve cornering response and stability. A third motor works alongside the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission to assist the V8 in driving the rear wheels.

The car’s integrated electronic control system continually manages power delivery, steering, suspension, braking and aerodynamics, adapting the driving experience to road conditions and the driver’s selected mode.

Valhalla Spider: key specifications

  • Power: 1,079PS combined
  • Torque: 1,100Nm
  • Engine: 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8
  • Electric motors: Three
  • Transmission: Eight-speed dual-clutch
  • Maximum speed: 217mph (electronically limited)
  • Roof: Removable fabric roof or optional carbon fibre hardtop
  • Construction: Carbon fibre passenger structure

Aerodynamics designed for roof-on or roof-off driving

Unlike conventional convertibles, the Valhalla Spider has been engineered to deliver its full performance potential with the roof removed.

Active aerodynamic surfaces at the front and rear continually adjust downforce and drag. With the roof fitted, the system can generate more than 600kg of downforce.

Revised electronic stability and aerodynamic calibrations compensate for the changes in airflow created by removing the roof, helping preserve the Coupe’s handling characteristics.

The lightweight carbon fibre passenger structure, developed using techniques derived from Formula 1, provides the stiffness required for an open-cockpit supercar without extensive structural reinforcement.

A more accessible cockpit

The Spider retains the Valhalla’s dramatic upward-opening dihedral doors, now featuring frameless windows and revised mechanisms for easier operation.

New carbon fibre Touring Seats are fitted as standard, designed to improve comfort and access. Customers preferring the Coupe’s more focused sports seats can specify them at no additional cost.

Aston Martin CEO Adrian Hallmark described the Spider as building on the Coupe’s technological achievements while extending the opportunities for driving enjoyment offered by an open-cockpit supercar.

When will the Valhalla Spider make its debut?

The Aston Martin Valhalla Spider is scheduled to make its global public debut at the 2026 Concours at Wynn Las Vegas, taking place over the coming weekend.

Pricing, production numbers and customer delivery schedules have not been confirmed in the supplied announcement.

Motoring Echo Verdict

The Valhalla Spider is considerably more than a Coupe with its roof removed. Aston Martin has taken care to preserve the engineering that makes the original car so technically interesting, particularly its sophisticated hybrid drivetrain and active aerodynamics.

The ability to reach 217mph with the roof removed is an extraordinary headline figure, although the greater attraction for many owners may be experiencing the sound of that twin-turbocharged V8 without a roof separating them from the outside world.

The Valhalla Spider adds another dimension to Aston Martin’s expanding performance-car portfolio.
