Occupying a record-breaking 2,016-square-metre exhibition space, the Chinese automotive giant transformed its presence into one of the festival’s biggest attractions, with world premieres, European debuts, cutting-edge charging technology demonstrations and high-performance hill climb runs drawing crowds throughout the day.
DENZA Z Steals the Spotlight
The headline act came from premium marque DENZA, which chose Goodwood for the global debut of the Z Coupe and Z Racing variants alongside the previously revealed Z Spider.
Penned by Global Head of Design Wolfgang Egger, the sleek 2+2 sports cars combine dramatic styling with astonishing electric performance.
All three models feature a sophisticated triple-motor powertrain producing:
- 1,604PS
- 1,260Nm of torque
- 0-62mph in just 2.25 seconds (Coupe)
- Top speed of 186mph
The more extreme DENZA Z Racing raises the bar even further.
Its aggressive aerodynamic package generates an incredible 1,060kg of downforce at 217mph, while optional semi-slick tyres enable a staggering 0-62mph sprint in just 1.96 seconds.
Festival crowds witnessed the car’s remarkable capability first-hand as it attacked the famous Goodwood hill climb.
FLASH Charging Impresses Festival Visitors
Another major attraction was BYD’s revolutionary FLASH Charging technology.
Live demonstrations allowed visitors to watch charging speeds that redefine EV convenience:
- 10-70% charge in just five minutes
- 10-97% in nine minutes
- 20-97% in 12 minutes even at -30°C
The technology was demonstrated using both the DENZA Z Racing and the elegant DENZA Z9GT, the first vehicle to introduce FLASH Charging technology to the UK.
BAO 5 and SHARK Showcase Off-Road Capability
Performance wasn’t confined to the tarmac.
The rugged DENZA BAO 5 made its European debut, demonstrating the capabilities of its 544PS DMO powertrain on BYD’s dedicated off-road course.
Alongside it, the new BYD SHARK pickup displayed impressive 4×4 performance, giving visitors a glimpse of the company’s expanding range of adventure-focused vehicles.
DOLPHIN G DM-i Brings Hybrid Innovation
Despite being among the smallest vehicles on display, the DOLPHIN G DM-i proved one of the most talked-about newcomers.
As the only plug-in hybrid supermini currently available, it combines BYD’s Super Hybrid DM technology with an impressive driving range of up to 646 miles from a full battery charge and fuel tank.
Its striking Sunset Orange finish ensured it attracted attention throughout the day.
YANGWANG Demonstrates Engineering Excellence
Luxury performance brand YANGWANG also made a major impact with three highly advanced vehicles.
Leading the charge was the extraordinary U9 Xtreme hypercar.
Producing more than 3,000PS, the U9 already holds the production car world speed record, having reached 308.3mph in 2025.
Its sophisticated DiSus-X intelligent body control system also proved its agility during the demanding 1.16-mile Goodwood hill climb.
The luxurious U8L SUV highlighted another side of YANGWANG’s engineering capability, combining premium comfort with advanced technologies including its remarkable Emergency Flotation Mode, designed to allow the vehicle to navigate deep floodwater.
Completing the trio was the elegant U7 luxury saloon, which arrived in Britain after driving all the way from China.
Its DiSus-Z active suspension recovers energy from road movement to recharge the battery while simultaneously improving ride comfort, making it ideally suited to long-distance touring.
Technology and Entertainment Complete the Experience
Beyond the vehicle launches, BYD’s record-breaking exhibition stand offered visitors a comprehensive showcase of the group’s technological ambitions.
Alongside the latest vehicles, guests enjoyed:
- Interactive technology displays
- Driving simulators
- Live demonstrations
- Family entertainment
- Hands-on experiences showcasing future mobility innovations
The attraction remains open throughout the remainder of the Goodwood Festival of Speed weekend.
