Volkswagen has revealed the all-new ID. Cross, an all-electric compact SUV designed to make premium electric mobility more accessible. Combining contemporary styling, advanced driver assistance systems, impressive practicality and a high-quality interior, the newcomer aims to raise expectations in the small SUV segment while carrying an entry-level price of around €28,000.
The new model officially enters advance sales in Germany today (15 July), joining the recently introduced ID. Polo and ID. Polo GTI as part of Volkswagen’s latest generation of affordable electric vehicles.
Premium Quality Meets Everyday Practicality
The ID. Cross has been engineered to deliver the refinement typically associated with larger, more expensive vehicles while remaining firmly positioned within the compact SUV class.
Despite measuring just 4,153mm long, the dedicated MEB+ electric platform allows Volkswagen to maximise cabin space for five occupants. Boot capacity stands at 475 litres, exceeding that of the combustion-powered T-Cross by 20 litres, while a useful storage compartment beneath the adjustable boot floor provides room for items such as drinks crates.
A further 25-litre front luggage compartment (frunk) offers convenient storage for charging cables and smaller everyday items.
Inside, Volkswagen has focused heavily on perceived quality. Soft-touch materials, fabric-covered dashboard surfaces, carefully crafted switchgear and improved seating comfort create an interior environment that feels more premium than its price point suggests.
Modern Design with Distinctive Volkswagen Identity
The ID. Cross introduces Volkswagen’s latest Pure Positive design language, blending clean surfaces with confident proportions and distinctive lighting signatures.
Key exterior features include:

- Optional IQ.LIGHT LED Matrix headlights

Digital Cabin with a Retro Twist

A 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro sits directly ahead of the driver alongside a large 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, creating a clean and intuitive dashboard layout.
One particularly unusual feature is Volkswagen’s optional Retro Display Mode, recreating the instrument layout of the original Mk1 Golf. Traditional-style analogue graphics are combined with modern information, replacing the classic rev counter with an electric power meter while retaining contemporary functions such as Dynamic Road Sign Display.
The latest Innovision infotainment system also delivers enhanced connectivity and simplified operation through faster software and improved user interfaces.
Three Power Outputs and Up to 427km Range
Built on Volkswagen’s latest MEB+ electric vehicle platform, the ID. Cross will be offered with three electric powertrain options:
- 85kW (116PS)
- 99kW (135PS)
- 155kW (211PS)
Customers can choose between two battery sizes:
- 37kWh (net)
- 52kWh (net)
The larger battery delivers a WLTP driving range of up to 427 kilometres, making the ID. Cross suitable for both everyday commuting and longer journeys.
Charging performance includes:
- 11kW AC charging as standard
- Up to 90kW DC rapid charging with the 37kWh battery
- Up to 105kW DC rapid charging with the 52kWh battery
Both battery versions can recharge from 10 to 80 per cent in around 24 minutes, depending on specification.
Luxury-Class Technology Comes to the Compact Segment
Volkswagen has equipped the ID. Cross with technology more commonly associated with larger premium models.
Among the highlights is the latest Connected Travel Assist, which uses online data to provide enhanced driver assistance.
For the first time in this price category, the system is capable of recognising traffic lights and, where conditions permit, can automatically slow the vehicle to a halt at red lights.
Other available technologies include:
- One Pedal Driving
- 360-degree Area View camera system
- Park Assist Pro
- Remote smartphone parking functionality
- Advanced online-connected assistance systems
These features combine to simplify everyday driving while enhancing safety and convenience.
Engineered for Comfort
Volkswagen says significant attention has been paid to ride quality and refinement throughout development.
The specially tuned suspension has been designed specifically for the front-wheel-drive electric platform, delivering a balance of comfort, stability and responsive handling.
Noise insulation and vibration reduction have also been enhanced to provide a quieter cabin experience.
Higher-powered versions can additionally be specified with Volkswagen’s newly developed adaptive DCC suspension, which continuously adjusts damping characteristics according to road conditions and driving style, allowing drivers to choose between greater comfort or increased agility.
