The Renault 5 E-Tech electric is getting more range, smarter driving technology and additional personalisation options for MY27 – with prices remaining unchanged.
Aerodynamic improvements and optimised battery electronics have increased the official WLTP range of both battery versions. The 40kWh, 120hp Urban Range model can now travel up to 197 miles, while the 52kWh, 150hp Comfort Range increases to 259 miles.
The improvements have been achieved through changes to the car’s lower-body aerodynamics and door mirrors, alongside revisions to the battery electronics.
New SmartMode adapts to the driver
One of the biggest technology additions is a new SmartMode, which automatically switches between Eco, Comfort and Sport settings according to how the Renault 5 is being driven.
Hard acceleration for an overtake, for example, can prompt the system to select the sharper responses of Sport mode before automatically returning to a more efficient setting when the pace drops.
Drivers can still select their preferred mode manually through the OpenR Link touchscreen or using voice control. The introduction of SmartMode means the dedicated Multi-Sense button has been removed from the steering wheel.
Renault has also upgraded the wireless smartphone charger. The new magnetic, cooled Qi2 charger is designed to improve charging performance while reducing the risk of a phone overheating. Renault says a compatible device can recover up to 50% of its battery capacity in an hour.
The car’s eCall emergency system has also been updated to support newer 4G and 5G mobile networks.
Gemini AI joins the Renault 5
Google Gemini is also coming to the Renault 5 through an optional over-the-air update to Google Assistant.
The AI-based system is designed to allow more natural conversations than conventional voice commands, with occupants able to interrupt responses, ask follow-up questions and even switch languages during a conversation.
It builds on the Google technology already integrated into Renault’s OpenR Link infotainment system.
More colours and personalisation
Renault is expanding the Renault 5’s already distinctive colour palette with Flame Red and Shadow Grey, which will arrive later in the year.
Midnight Blue versions of the techno+ and iconic five+ will also become available with a contrasting red roofline, while new sticker packs will provide further personalisation options.
Changes continue inside, where the iconic five+ replaces its previous yellow upholstery with a new mottled blue design. Smaller upholstery and stitching revisions are being introduced elsewhere in the range.
The existing four-model structure remains unchanged. Evolution continues with the 40kWh battery and 120hp Urban Range powertrain, while techno+, iconic five+ and roland garros+ use the larger 52kWh battery and 150hp Comfort Range set-up.
Prices unchanged
Despite the additional equipment and improved range, Renault has kept MY27 pricing unchanged.
The Renault 5 E-Tech electric continues to start from £21,495 on-the-road and remains eligible for the full £3,750 Electric Car Grant.
Orders for the updated MY27 Renault 5 E-Tech electric opened on 22 September.
