Nissan has reached another significant milestone in its pioneering electric vehicle journey, celebrating the delivery of its 100,000th electric vehicle to a UK customer.
The landmark vehicle, an all-new, all-electric Nissan MICRA, was presented to buyers Ron and Gillian Ainsworth at Chorley Group’s Nissan dealership in Chorley, Lancashire, marking a major achievement for both the manufacturer and the UK’s transition towards electric mobility.
The milestone underlines Nissan’s position as one of the brands that helped introduce electric motoring to mainstream UK drivers, having launched the original LEAF 15 years ago.
Historic Delivery Takes Customers by Surprise
The Ainsworths had no idea their purchase would become part of Nissan’s history.
Receiving the keys from Adam Gradwell, Client Experience Specialist at Chorley Nissan, the couple became the owners of the manufacturer’s 100,000th UK electric vehicle.
Adam Gradwell said the dealership was honoured to be involved in such an important occasion.
“We are incredibly proud to be the dealer group that delivered this very special electric vehicle.
“The All-New MICRA has proved very popular since arriving earlier this year. Customers love its sporty styling and engaging driving dynamics, while rising fuel prices have encouraged even more motorists to consider making the switch to electric.
“MICRA is the perfect choice for first-time EV buyers as well as those continuing their electric vehicle journey.”
First EV Brings Delighted Owners
For Ron and Gillian Ainsworth, the historic delivery was an unexpected bonus.
Mrs Ainsworth said they had been impressed from the moment they took delivery.
“We are delighted with our new MICRA. It’s our first electric vehicle and we love everything about it.
“It drives beautifully, it’s comfortable, spacious and looks fantastic. We chose the MICRA because of the positive reviews we had read and it certainly hasn’t disappointed.
“Many congratulations to Nissan on selling its 100,000th electric vehicle in the UK.”
15 Years at the Forefront of EV Innovation
Nissan’s electric vehicle story in Britain began in 2011 with the arrival of the pioneering LEAF, the world’s first mass-market electric family car.
What started with a modest real-world driving range of around 109 miles has evolved into one of the industry’s most established electric line-ups.
Today, Nissan offers customers a growing range of fully electric passenger cars and commercial vehicles, with every model focused on combining practicality, affordability and advanced technology.
James Taylor, Managing Director of Nissan Motor GB, said the latest milestone reflected years of commitment to electrification.
“We are incredibly proud to have led the way in automotive electrification for 15 years and it is wonderful to have reached 100,000 EV sales in the UK.
“Between the new MICRA and LEAF, the updated ARIYA and our electric commercial vehicle range, Nissan offers customers an outstanding choice of affordable, innovative and practical electric vehicles.
“We hope Mr and Mrs Ainsworth enjoy many happy years of motoring in their new MICRA.”
Nissan’s Electric Line-up Continues to Expand
Nissan’s current electric range now covers multiple market sectors.
Nissan LEAF
The original LEAF transformed perceptions of electric driving when it launched in 2011. Now entering its third generation, the latest British-built model has already claimed the 2026 Auto Express Car of the Year award ahead of its showroom arrival later this year.
Nissan ARIYA
Introduced in 2022, the ARIYA brought premium styling, long-distance capability and Japanese-inspired design to Nissan’s SUV range. The refreshed 2026 model introduces further technology and usability improvements while continuing to offer driving ranges exceeding 300 miles.
Nissan MICRA
The sixth-generation MICRA returns exclusively as a fully electric model. Early reviews have been highly positive, with critics praising its design, practicality and driving experience. It has already earned a five-star rating from What Car?
Electric Commercial Vehicles
Nissan has also expanded its zero-emission commercial vehicle portfolio, progressing from the pioneering e-NV200 to today’s Townstar EV and the fully electric Interstar-e, offering businesses emission-free transport solutions across multiple sectors.
Looking Ahead
Nissan’s electric ambitions continue to accelerate.
Alongside the arrival of the third-generation LEAF, the company has confirmed that the first-ever electric JUKE will be manufactured at its Sunderland plant alongside the LEAF as part of the brand’s growing UK production strategy.
The manufacturer also plans to introduce an ultra-compact A-segment electric city car, further strengthening its commitment to accessible zero-emission mobility.
With 100,000 UK EV deliveries now achieved, Nissan’s latest milestone highlights not only its own transformation but also the growing confidence of British motorists embracing electric driving.
