Mazda is extending its service plan programme to owners of older and out-of-warranty cars as it looks to bring more vehicles back into its UK franchised dealer network for servicing.

The new Mazda Service Plan, administered by eDynamix, is available through Mazda dealers to customers buying new cars or Mazda Selected approved used vehicles. For the first time, existing Mazda owners can also purchase a plan directly through the manufacturer’s UK customer website.

The move broadens the scheme beyond customers buying through Mazda retailers and is designed particularly to attract owners who currently have their cars maintained by independent garages or fast-fit centres.

Early take-up suggests there is demand among owners of significantly older vehicles. Mazda says around 10% of service plans sold since the new programme launched have been for cars more than 10 years old, with examples including owners of 13-year-old MX-5 and CX-5 models returning to the dealer network.

Fixed servicing costs for older Mazdas

Service plans allow owners to spread the cost of scheduled maintenance, with Mazda introducing competitive labour rates intended to make franchised servicing more attractive to customers running older vehicles.

Mazda believes this could help its dealers retain cars for longer while establishing relationships with owners who may not previously have used the franchised network.

Customers can also make voluntary additional monthly contributions towards unexpected replacement costs that fall outside their service plan. Any unused additional contributions can be reclaimed when the plan ends.

David Wilson-Green, Director of Customer Service and Aftersales at Mazda Motors UK, said affordability had been a key consideration in extending the programme to older cars.

The company sees the initiative as an opportunity for Mazda-trained technicians and franchised workshops to compete more directly for servicing work that would otherwise go to the independent sector, while potentially building relationships that could lead to future vehicle sales.
