Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is expanding the ID. Buzz Cargo line-up with a new long-wheelbase version, bringing more load space, a larger battery and the option of 4MOTION all-wheel drive.
The new ID. Buzz Cargo LWB increases load compartment capacity to 4.4m³, 0.5m³ more than the standard-wheelbase model, while also gaining a second sliding side door as standard.
UK order books are scheduled to open in early 2027, ahead of the first vehicles arriving in spring.
More room for cargo
The extended wheelbase increases the ID. Buzz Cargo’s load floor length by 250mm to 2,458mm, while the width between the wheelarches remains 1,230mm.
Depending on drivetrain, maximum payload is up to 700kg for the rear-wheel-drive version and 606kg for the all-wheel-drive model.
A wooden load floor and second sliding door are fitted as standard. The sliding door is also 190mm wider than before, allowing a Euro pallet to be loaded through the side of the van.
As with the standard ID. Buzz Cargo, the LWB version will be available in two- and three-seat configurations, with a manually adjustable lumbar support also now offered.
Rear-wheel drive or 4MOTION
The ID. Buzz Cargo LWB uses a larger 86kWh battery, compared with 79kWh in the standard-wheelbase model.
Rear-wheel-drive versions produce 210kW – equivalent to 286PS – while the 4MOTION model increases output to 250kW, or 340PS.
Both versions have a maximum braked towing capacity of 1,800kg on eight and 12 per cent gradients.
Buyers can choose between the standard large tailgate or optional rear wing doors.
European pre-sales for the 340PS 4MOTION model begin on 23 September 2026, priced from €50,630 excluding VAT in Germany. The 286PS rear-wheel-drive version follows a week later from €48,490 excluding VAT.
UK pricing will be announced closer to the start of ordering.
New driver assistance technology
The ID. Buzz Cargo LWB will leave Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ Hanover factory with the latest generation of ID. software, bringing a number of new functions.
An updated version of the optional Travel Assist system can now respond to traffic lights, automatically braking the vehicle to a standstill when approaching a red light.
One-pedal driving is also introduced, allowing the driver to use the accelerator to control both acceleration and strong regenerative deceleration, including bringing the van to a complete stop.
Vehicle-to-Load powers tools from the van
Potentially more significant for commercial users is the introduction of Vehicle-to-Load technology.
The system allows electrical equipment to draw power directly from the ID. Buzz’s high-voltage battery, meaning tools such as circular saws and other equipment can be powered from the vehicle when working away from a conventional electricity supply.
Using Volkswagen’s PowerSocket adapter through the charging connection, the system can provide 3.0kW continuously, with peak output of 3.6kW.
Two versions of the PowerSocket will be available, offering either a conventional Schuko domestic connection or a CEE 230V camping-style socket.
Updated infotainment
The long-wheelbase Cargo also gains Volkswagen’s latest Innovision infotainment system and a new app store.
This allows additional vehicle functions and digital services to be downloaded or activated, with apps covering areas including audio and video streaming, parking, charging and gaming.
A redesigned multifunction steering wheel with new controls completes the technology updates.
With its 4.4m³ load compartment, wider side access and ability to power electrical equipment directly from its battery, the ID. Buzz Cargo LWB broadens Volkswagen’s electric van offering towards operators needing greater carrying capacity without moving to a larger commercial vehicle.
