BYD has joined forces with established pick-up accessories specialist Truckman to give UK buyers of its new SHARK plug-in hybrid pick-up a wider choice of equipment for work, leisure and outdoor adventures.
The partnership brings a range of hardtops, retractable tonneau covers and load-bed accessories to BYD’s growing UK offering, allowing owners to tailor the SHARK to their individual requirements.
With more than 40 years of experience in the pick-up accessories market, Truckman is well established among commercial vehicle operators and private owners. Its latest collaboration reflects the importance of practicality and personalisation in the competitive UK pick-up market.
Two Hardtop Options for the BYD SHARK
For customers wanting additional protection and security for equipment carried in the SHARK’s 1,200-litre load bed, Truckman is offering two distinctly different hardtop designs.
Grand Hardtop – £2,716.22
The colour-coded Grand Hardtop is designed to complement the SHARK’s exterior styling while providing enclosed, weather-protected carrying space.
Its equipment includes pop-out side windows, a heated rear window and remote central locking. A curved window line helps give the hardtop a more integrated appearance, making it particularly suitable for owners who want a combination of everyday practicality and smart presentation.
M-Series Hardtop – £2,412.00
Owners looking for a more work-focused solution can choose the Truckman M-Series, which features a durable powder-coated finish designed to cope with more demanding applications.
Gull-wing side windows provide convenient access to equipment from either side of the vehicle, as well as through the rear opening. Its modular construction and multiple mounting options also make it suitable for carrying additional accessories.
For tradespeople, service engineers and outdoor enthusiasts regularly loading and unloading equipment, the M-Series could prove the more practical choice.
Retractable Tonneau Covers Add Flexibility
For drivers who prefer to retain the open-bed character of a pick-up, Truckman is introducing two retractable tonneau covers.
The manually operated version costs £1,245.60, while an electrically retractable alternative, priced at £1,756.80, can be opened and closed remotely through a smartphone app.
Both covers carry an IP56 weather-resistance rating and incorporate a T-slot mounting system for additional cargo-carrying equipment.
Among the available additions are Heavy Duty Black Cross Bars, priced at £344.40. Manufactured from aluminium, these support a dynamic load of up to 200kg and a static load of up to 360kg, subject to the vehicle’s applicable load limits.
The choice between manual and electric operation gives owners the opportunity to balance convenience against cost, while the optional cross bars extend the SHARK’s versatility for transporting additional equipment.
DragMat Makes Loading Easier
One of the more affordable accessories is the Truckman DragMat, priced from £244.15.
Designed to slide in and out of the load bed using ergonomic handles, the DragMat can handle more than 100kg of equipment, helping owners retrieve tools, camping gear or other heavy items without having to reach deep into the vehicle’s load area.
It also provides an additional layer of protection against everyday scuffs and scratches, potentially making it a useful investment for customers who regularly carry bulky equipment.
BYD SHARK: Plug-in Hybrid Performance
Underneath its practical pick-up bodywork, the BYD SHARK uses the manufacturer’s DMO plug-in hybrid system, developed to combine electric driving characteristics with the flexibility of a petrol engine.
The powertrain incorporates a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and electric drive technology, producing a combined 436PS and 652Nm of torque.
BYD quotes acceleration from 0-62mph in 5.7 seconds, making the SHARK unusually quick for a vehicle designed to carry loads and undertake demanding everyday duties.
Claimed fuel economy is up to 80.7mpg, with a combined driving range of up to 419 miles from a full petrol tank and fully charged battery. As with other plug-in hybrids, real-world economy will depend considerably on driving conditions, battery charging frequency and how the vehicle is used.
