Chinese new energy vehicle brand BYD has reached a major milestone in the UK, surpassing 100,000 new car registrations less than three-and-a-half years after entering the market.
The achievement highlights the brand’s remarkable growth since launching UK sales with the BYD ATTO 3 in March 2023. In just over three years, BYD has expanded its line-up from a single model to a comprehensive range of 10 vehicles spanning fully electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains.
Today’s portfolio caters for a wide range of buyers, from the compact DOLPHIN SURF hatchback through to the high-performance 530PS SEALION 7 SUV-coupé. The company’s expanding DM-i plug-in hybrid range now includes the SEAL U DM-i, ATTO 2 DM-i, SEAL 6 DM-i Saloon and Touring, and the recently introduced SEALION 5 DM-i. Meanwhile, 2026 has also seen the arrival of the updated all-electric ATTO 3 EVO, bringing significant improvements over the original model.
Rapid Dealer Network Expansion
Supporting this rapid product growth has been an equally impressive expansion of BYD’s retail network. The company has grown from just five retail partners at launch to 143 locations across the UK, providing nationwide sales and aftersales support for its growing customer base.
The pace of growth continues to accelerate. Of the 100,000 vehicles now registered in the UK, almost 38,000 were delivered during the first six months of 2026 alone, underlining the increasing popularity of the brand with British motorists.
Looking Ahead
Commenting on the landmark achievement, Bono Ge, Country Manager for BYD UK, said:
“We are incredibly grateful to the 100,000 BYD owners who have placed their trust in us—and to the 100,000 families behind them who have welcomed BYD into their lives.
“We remain committed to delivering the very best ownership experience, supported by our nationwide network of 143 retail locations.
“At the same time, we’re excited to bring even more innovative products to the UK, including the BYD DOLPHIN G, SHARK and Ti 7, as well as the DENZA models like Z, D9, BAO 5 and Z9 GT. We’re also introducing exciting new technologies, including our groundbreaking FLASH Charging technology, to make electric mobility even more convenient for our customers.”
The next phase of BYD’s UK expansion will see several new models arrive across both the BYD and DENZA brands, alongside the introduction of its ultra-fast FLASH Charging technology, further strengthening the company’s position in the increasingly competitive electric vehicle market.
